PITTSBURGH (January 2023) - Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney continues its strategic growth with the addition of Stephen Kelkenberg, counsel in its labor, employment, benefits and immigration section. Kelkenberg joins the Pittsburgh office. He counsels clients on employment and commercial disputes, with an emphasis on contracts, restrictive covenants, discrimination, trade secrets, and non-disclosure agreements.

“Stephen’s practice is a great fit for our team in Pittsburgh,” said Christian Antkowiak, shareholder and co-chair of the firm’s labor, employment, benefits and immigration section. “With his broad litigation experience, he will add strength to our already deep bench of labor and employment attorneys in Pittsburgh and across the firm’s national platform.”

Previously a litigation partner at a full-service law firm based in New York, Kelkenberg was the co-chair of its non-compete, non-solicit, and trade secrets practice. His trial experience includes both arbitrations and many bench and jury trials in several jurisdictions throughout the United States, including New York and New York City, New Jersey, Florida, and Louisiana. These cases have included employment discrimination claims, contract and property disputes, Federal civil and New York State human rights matters, trade secret and copyright claims, and disputes involving employee misconduct. Kelkenberg has litigated several New York State and federal tax matters as well — both on the prosecution side and assisting clients in the defense of claims brought by the government. He also represents clients in connection with arbitrations before the International Centre for Dispute Resolution.

Additionally, Kelkenberg has experience with regulatory and compliance-related matters. He assists clients in responding to federal investigations, both as parties and non-parties, and aids them in all aspects of subpoena compliance. In this role, he works with clients to address and handle internal investigations and formal presentations to regulators, and to develop protocols and strategies for future compliance.

“Buchanan presented an opportunity to join a firm, not only with a great reputation, but a great collaborative culture,” said Kelkenberg. “I look forward to working with my colleagues across the firm’s national footprint and industry-focused platform to deliver value to our clients.”

In addition to Kelkenberg, Buchanan’s labor, employment, benefits and immigration section has added Amanda Scarpo as an associate in its Pittsburgh office, and Lisa Hughes Gabler and Samantha Wolfe as associates to its Harrisburg offices. Leonard Jones also joined the firm as an associate in the firm’s Newark office.
