Tips for Employers to Comply with the Patchwork of Paid Leave Statutes
As noted in a prior client advisory, Allegheny County has adopted legislation guaranteeing employees at companies with 26 or more employees one hour of paid sick leave for every 35 hours worked, with a cap at 40 hours. In most respects, the legislation is identical to the Pittsburgh Paid Sick Days Act. Fines and penalties for failure to comply with Allegheny County’s legislation may be levied against employers beginning December 15, 2022. Allegheny County is one of many jurisdictions adopting paid sick leave legislation, which is forcing national employers to adapt policies and take into consideration the various state and local laws (which are sometimes in conflict) when crafting PTO, vacation and sick leave, or other leave policies.
During an upcoming CLE presentation, Buchanan's Labor & Employment attorneys, Jaime Tuite and Katie O'Connor, will be discussing the current trends as states and localities further roll out their sick leave laws to protect workers. The presentation will include an overview of the Allegheny County Ordinance, the City of Pittsburgh Ordinance, and overall national trends.
Attendees are welcome to attend in-person in Buchanan's Pittsburgh Office at the Union Trust Building or join via Zoom.
One hour of general CLE credit will be provided for all attorneys in attendance.
