Shareholder Philip L. Hirschhorn Quoted in Law360 Regarding Edcomm Identify Theft Case
Philip L. Hirschhorn, Shareholder in Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney’s Intellectual Property Litigation Section, was quoted in Law360 on November 19 regarding a pending litigation case against Edcomm, Inc.
Former president of Edcomm, Linda Eagle, brought a suit against the company and many of its top officials in 2011. Eagle claimed that employees at the company took over her LinkedIn account, changed her password and switched her information and photo with her successor’s. Eagle believes the company took ownership of her account to take advantage of her contacts and reputation after she was terminated in 2011.
Hirschhorn explained that Edcomm does not require its employees to create LinkedIn accounts and that Edcomm had replaced Eagle’s name on what should have rightfully been considered a company-owned profile.
"Shakespeare asked the question, ‘What’s in a name?’ and that’s what this case is really all about," said Hirschhorn. "[Edcomm] did the best they could to remove all of Dr. Eagle from that account."
