Richard Jacobson is a shareholder in the firm's Tax Section. He is a Certified Public Accountant and Board Certified by The Florida Bar in International Law.
Richard's practice includes:
- Assisting foreign clients with pre-residency tax planning
- Coordinating U.S. tax and immigration planning
- Helping foreign investors in U.S. real estate (FIRPTA) and other business ventures
- Representing U.S. companies exporting products or services or conducting business internationally
- Assisting U.S. clients with their foreign manufacturing activities
- Helping U.S. business executives plan extended tours of duty overseas
- Managing IRS Voluntary Disclosure, Streamline, FATCA and FBAR/FinCen reporting
- Handling inquiries from foreign attorneys, trust companies, and accountants
- Providing international estate planning services

Richard's clients come to him for guidance through the cross-border taxation minefield and he does this on budget and with optimal results. Clients know that his greatest satisfaction comes from helping international families address cross-border tax, immigration and related matters, and from helping U.S. companies expand overseas.
Richard is the firm's lead representative to the TerraLex global legal network of 150 firms located in 100 countries. As such, he has developed relationships with his counterparts throughout the TerraLex network, providing clients and attorneys immediate access to cross-border expertise. With his immigration team, he offers “unique and coordinated one-stop immigration and international tax services.”
Richard's global perspective was developed early in life. Born in the U.S. Midwest, he spent high school years in Afghanistan. By age 16, he had traveled around the world by himself and has worked and traveled extensively overseas ever since.

Richard has been selected by his peers to be listed in The Best Lawyers in America® since 2006 in the area of International Trade and Finance Law and was named "Lawyer of the Year" in the 2019 and 2020 editions for International Trade and Finance Law. In addition, Richard has garnered an AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review rating, the highest available mark for professional excellence from Martindale-Hubbell's Peer Review Ratings. He was named to the Florida Super Lawyers® list from 2006-2019.
Outside the Office
At the University of South Florida, Richard is on the Advisory Councils at both the School of Accountancy and at USF World. He is also a member of several professional organizations, including the International Tax Committee of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is the Director of the Tampa Bay Area Committee on Foreign Relations. He was a Gubernatorial Appointee to the Florida International Trade and Investment Council and delegate to the Mayor of Tampa's Mission to Cuba. Richard also served as an Advisory Board member at the University of Florida International Center and Alumni Council at the University of Florida Levin College of Law. He is an alumnus of the American International School of Kabul, Afghanistan.
