Pittsburgh Intellectual Property Attorney Carla Vrsansky Quoted on March Madness Trademark
March Madness promotions can land you in hot water, warns Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney Counsel Carla Vrsansky in a March 11, 2011 Pittsburgh Business Times article.
The article, "March Madness: Firms put tournament fever to work," discusses the potential for legal danger when businesses leverage the popular National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA®) basketball championship moniker "March Madness" for unrelated contests.
"It's a registered trademark and people should watch out if using the term with their promotion," cautions Vrsansky.
The NCAA agrees, and each year releases a trademark memorandum outlining the unauthorized uses of NCAA trademarks — including "Final Four" and "March Madness".
