Craig D. Mills, Grace D. Greenhall and Reeny Kelly scored a complete victory in a breach of contract action tried in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. The case was brought on behalf of an individual client of the firm who had loaned $1 million to a friend and business associate to fund an investment venture, only to have the (now former) friend renege on the debt and claim that the money had actually been loaned to one of his now-defunct companies. After a four-day trial, the jury deliberated only 70 minutes before returning a verdict against the defendant individually for, in the words of the jury foreperson, “The full amount.” Throughout the trial Reeny Kelly displayed her usual mastery of exhibits and trial technology and grace under pressure, while Grace Greenhall, in her first jury trial, acted as jury consultant and an immediate source of bench briefs and other legal research that resulted in the Court delivering several favorable, non-standard jury instructions.
