"Anyone who is in the U.S. out of status, they’re always at risk. It’s always an issue," said Christine Alden, president of the American Immigration Lawyers Association’s South Florida chapter.
The AILA chapter curated a team of lawyers who volunteered to be on call on, ready for any response and keeping each other updated through a WhatsApp group chat.
"It’s been totally quiet," she said.
Though the dust appears to have settled, it isn’t necessarily over.
"My concern is people have been lulled into a sense of security," Alden said. "The community needs to be prepared."
