Luis F. Calvo is a litigation attorney at Buchanan’s San Diego office. His practice encompasses a wide range of complex legal issues, including business disputes, investment claims, employment law, and intellectual property matters. Luis has successfully litigated cases to verdict, judgment or award in federal courts, as well as New York and Texas state courts, and in arbitral forums such as FINRA and AAA.
Luis is recognized for his ability to anticipate the impact of an evolving regulatory and legal landscape on his clients. He works closely with public and private companies, broker-dealers, and individuals to develop practical solutions tailored to their business and financial objectives. Additionally, Luis works on pro bono matters, having represented underserved clients with asylum petitions and removal proceedings.
Luis began his legal career in Mexico City, where he represented Fortune 50 companies in government contracts and antitrust matters. He earned his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law, where he served as an Editor of the Journal of Corporate and Financial Law and was a member of Fordham’s Moot Court team. Luis also holds a Master of Laws in International Business & Trade Law from Fordham and a Bachelor of Laws from Universidad Panamericana in Mexico.

Outside the Office
Outside of work, Luis enjoys exploring San Diego's stunning coastline and spending time outdoors with his family. He has a deep appreciation for history in all its forms and enjoys playing tennis, whether refining his skills or engaging in friendly matches with friends. He is always on the lookout for international dishes and tries his best to cook them for family and friends with varying degrees of success.
