How Name Gavin Clients

Gavin counsels and defends clients on a wide range of labor and employment matters, including regularly handling employment discrimination, wage and hour, sexual harassment, and retaliation matters among others from intake to resolution. Gavin frequently conducts training with clients to promote respect in the workplace while at the same time advising clients to adopt practices designed to prevent workplace discrimination, harassment, and retaliation in the future.

Gavin regularly defends employers in connection with charges and investigations before administrative agencies including the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the Department of Labor. Gavin prides himself in handling these claims in a speedy and efficient manner and has had great success convincing government agencies to close their cases without a probable cause finding.

Gavin drafts, revises, and assists clients with employment policies, onboarding documents, severance and separation packages, warning and discipline documentation, and executive agreements. Gavin helps clients through every phase of the employment relationship and beyond should an employment dispute arise.

What Clients Can Expect

As a labor and employment attorney, Gavin works regularly with companies’ Human Resources Departments and investigates and interviews their employees. Oftentimes employees are fearful or nervous to speak with an attorney because they automatically assume they’re in “trouble.” Gavin prides himself on being down to earth and having an effect on employees where they feel comfortable telling their stories and answering his pressing questions. Asking the right questions in the right way often helps assure Gavin a more thorough investigation and ultimately a more favorable outcome.

As a diverse attorney, I try to use my unique perspectives to help better my clients’ workplaces and advise them in ways that will help protect their employees from being treated unfairly, as many of us have.

Outside the Office

When not billing hours, Gavin enjoys spending quality time with friends and family, especially being “Uncle GaGa” to his nephew and two nieces. Gavin is an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan, prosecco enthusiast, and Bravo-holic, although these three things aren’t usually intertwined.

Proof Points

  • Obtained summary judgment dismissal for a biotechnology company in an action comprised of various claims in which the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the judgment. Saved the client over $3 million, and negated the need for an extensive trial, mitigating risk of over $300K in additional legal fees.
  • Drafted multiple winning post-arbitration briefs for a healthcare institution in which the arbitrators found that each alleged unfair labor practice at issue should be dismissed, agreeing that the client’s conduct was not in violation of the National Labor Relations Act.
  • Secured a decision affirming the grant of summary judgment in an employment matter following oral argument before the Pennsylvania Superior Court.
  • Obtained summary judgment dismissal for a local police department in a lawsuit filed by two former police officers who alleged a violation of their due process rights, retaliation, and hostile work environment upon their termination. The Third Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed this judgment.
