Frances R. McDermott

How Frances Helps Clients 

Frances R. McDermott is an associate in Buchanan’s litigation section, where she focuses her practice on commercial and corporate litigation matters. 

Prior to joining Buchanan, Frances counseled companies through complex litigation. She gained additional experience representing individuals who were injured as a result of catastrophic losses. Frances has gained experience in various areas of law during her career. As a result of her general experience, she can better assist clients through different stages of litigation in federal and state court. 

During law school, Frances gained practical experience in court as a Certified Legal Intern at Philadelphia Legal Assistance, advocating for her Philadelphia resident clients who sought custody of their children and pursued protection from abuse orders. She was invited to join the mock trial team and participated in prestigious invitation-only competitions. Frances was honored with the Kline & Specter Award for Excellence in Trial Advocacy in recognition of her many accomplishments.

Frances prides herself on her communication and advocacy. As someone who has represented companies and individuals, she has developed an effective communication style that guides her clients through the process. 

Outside the Office

Frances was born and raised in Philadelphia. She loves to visit the different restaurants in the city and cheer on the Philadelphia 76ers. She is an avid runner. In her spare time, Frances enjoys traveling and exploring new places by doing her two favorite things:  food and long runs. 

Outside the office, Frances donates her time to her alma mater by continuing to coach students on the Drexel Kline mock trial team.
