Dilip Patel Quoted in Law360 on SCOTUS Immigration Decision
Dilip Patel, counsel and immigration attorney in Buchanan's Labor & Employment section, was included in an attorney opinion roundup in Law360 regarding the June 23, SCOTUS decision in U.S. v. Texas, resulting in the block on the deferred deportation policies staying in place.
“The Supreme Court's very short order this morning will be extremely disappointing for the millions potentially eligible under the DAPA and expanded DACA programs. Common sense immigration enforcement priorities continue to be thwarted. The initiatives would have allowed law enforcement to focus attention on public safety risks, while allowing noncitizens with significant family and community ties to the U.S. to obtain temporary, renewable deferrals of deportation. This could have been avoided if the executive branch had acted on this much earlier and — with hindsight — had handled this through the usual regulatory process.”
