Convergence Summit - Choice of Entity for Emerging Growth Companies & Leveraging Intellectual Property
Pat Keane, Executive Shareholder in the firm's Intellectual Property section, and Kevin Passarello, Of Counsel in Corporate, recently spoke at the Convergence Summit, hosted by the University of Virginia Licensing & Ventures Group in Charlottesville, VA, July 18-19.
The conference brought together top research institutions around the country to address the lack of early-stage capital needed to advance promising technologies from the lab to the marketplace. Summit sessions included discussions on best practices, case studies and how to catalyze innovation with institutional support.
Pat and Kevin provided an insightful and tremendously well-received presentation entitled "Choice of Entity for Emerging Growth Companies and Leveraging Intellectual Property." Their talk centered on why choice of entity plays an important role in startup financing and how securing, protecting and leveraging intellectual property is critical to any emerging company's success.
Attendees included representatives from universities, accelerator programs, venture funds and technology and biotech/pharma companies from around the country.
