Christian Antkowiak, counsel at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC, said he’s been working with clients “for months” trying to get a game plan in place. But they’re still struggling with the transition. He gets questions about how best to handle a handful of employees, half who are below the new threshold and half above.

“Do they bring everyone up? Start paying overtime? Hire more people to cut down on overtime?” he asked.

That’s especially important in Pittsburgh, Antkowiak said, “where there are so many small and medium-sized businesses who don’t have a tremendous amount of resources to handle this type of change.”

He believes the impact will be significant.
