Buchanan Shareholder Jennifer Olmedo-Rodriguez Publishes Article on Benefits to Higher Ed for First-Generation Americans in The Edvocate
Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney Shareholder Jennifer Olmedo-Rodriguez recently published an article in The Edvocate – a website devoted to advocating for education equity, reform and innovation – titled "Higher Ed Allows Children of Immigrants to Validate Parents’ Sacrifices." In her article, she discusses the importance of harnessing the motivation, drive and determination of first-generation Americans on their journey to achieve their American Dream.
"Higher education is the key to building a ready team of loyal workers fiercely dedicated to achieving the American Dream," she notes, stating that American companies need to be plan ahead to source an educated talent pool in years to come.
A 2013 study found that over 55 million jobs would become available in the next few years, with the majority of which requiring education and/or training beyond high school.
Noting a simple solution to this problem, Olmedo-Rodriguez suggests that American companies tap into their own employees who are immigrants or the children of immigrant parents.
"Employers who invest in educating this community for future careers are effectively planting the seeds they can harvest to meet their future labor needs," she writes.
