Buchanan Ingersoll Rooney Shareholder Named Chair-Elect for Florida International University President’s Council Worlds Ahead Faculty Award Committee

MIAMI — July 6, 2015 — Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney’s Jennifer Olmedo-Rodriguez has been named to the Executive Committee of Florida International University’s (FIU) President’s Council as the chair of the Worlds Ahead Faculty Award Committee for 2016.

The World Ahead Faculty Award Committee is a subcommittee of the President’s Council – FIU’s premier community relations board. The World Ahead Faculty Award is bestowed annually upon a distinguished member of FIU’s faculty. The committee is responsible for recommending nominees to receive this distinction. Under Olmedo-Rodriguez’s leadership, committee members will review, evaluate and reach a consensus on the recommended award recipient and finalists. The $12,500 award is conferred at the Annual Faculty Convocation Ceremony hosted each fall semester. The award also honors a first-runner up who receives a cash award of $3,500 and a second-runner up who receives a cash award of $2,000.

Currently, Olmedo-Rodriguez is serving as chair-elect of the committee. She will take the reins as chair in January 2016.

Olmedo-Rodriguez, a shareholder in the firm’s Miami office and FIU alumna, focuses her practice on commercial litigation and civil appellate litigation. She has litigated a variety of commercial litigation disputes involving banking, UCC issues and construction-defect matters, as well as a variety of contractual disputes.

In addition to her commitment to FIU, Olmedo-Rodriguez is also very active within her community and profession serving on numerous boards including: the Florida Association for Women Lawyers, Miami-Dade Chapter as part of its Corporate Counsel Committee; the Florida Bar’s Appellate Court Rules Standing Committee; the Cuban American Bar Association; the Latin Builders Association; the Women’s Legal Network; the Hispanic National Bar Association; and the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce of Florida.

Olmedo-Rodriguez received her Bachelor of Arts from Florida International University and went on to earn her Juris Doctor from the University of Florida Levin College of Law.
