Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney Receives Mansfield Rule Certification 3.0 and Plus Status for Third Year in a Row
PITTSBURGH – September 15, 2020 – Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney has achieved Mansfield Rule Certification and Plus Status for the third year in a row. The firm is one of 100 leading firms to receive the certification from Diversity Lab and one of just 67 firms to have achieved the Plus Status designation again this year. “Plus” status indicates that, in addition to meeting or exceeding the baseline certification requirements, the firms have successfully reached at least 30 percent diverse lawyer representation in a notable number of their current leadership roles.
“Buchanan was one of the two-dozen trailblazing firms to achieve this certification during the pilot program in 2018 and I’m thrilled to see the exponential growth of participating and certified firms as our industry continues to increase diversity among attorney ranks,” said Joseph A. Dougherty, CEO and Managing Director of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney. “Thank you to each and every member of our firm who embodies our values and our commitment to true diversity and inclusion.”
“We are proud to continue to meet Diversity Lab’s rigorous requirements for Mansfield Certification Plus Status. We will continue this important work, until we can create and sustain an equitable and inclusive environment for all,” added Heather B. Brock, Buchanan's Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer and shareholder in the firm's Labor & Employment section.
The Mansfield Rule certification measures whether law firms have affirmatively considered women, attorneys of color, LGBTQ+ attorneys, and attorneys with disabilities – at least 30 percent of the candidate pool – for recruitment, governance roles, equity partner promotions, and inclusion in formal pitches to clients. The goal of the Mansfield Rule is to boost the representation of diverse lawyers in law firm leadership by broadening the pool of candidates considered for these roles and opportunities.
Buchanan is signed on for Mansfield 4.0 which is currently underway and will conclude in 2021.
