Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney Helps Devise Strategy to Help City of Pittsburgh Acquire Former VA Campus Saving City Millions of Dollars
PITTSBURGH – June 25, 2021 – Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney’s Federal Government Relations group recently assisted the City of Pittsburgh in their acquisition of the former Veterans Affairs hospital campus in Lincoln-Lemington. The group devised and implemented the strategy which enabled the city to acquire the land at no cost to taxpayers. The city plans to use the site as a state-of-the-art Public Safety Training Academy, a Public Safety Department and Emergency Management headquarters, a home for police K-9 and mounted units, storage of emergency response and winter weather response vehicles and equipment and for other uses.
The acquisition finalization brings to conclusion a multi-year process since the city submitted plans to acquire the site. With Buchanan’s help the city was able to obtain transfer of the property from the federal government under a provision that allows for free transfer of federal land to local governments for emergency management and/or first responder uses.
Terrence Heubert, principal in the firm’s Federal Government Relations, worked with Mayor Peduto’s office on this matter.
