Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney Commits to Move to New Office Space in Pittsburgh’s Iconic Union Trust Building
Move will take place in October 2019
PITTSBURGH – May 17, 2017 – Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney announces that the firm has signed a letter of intent to move its Pittsburgh headquarters from One Oxford Centre to the city's iconic Union Trust Building in October 2019. The building, designed by Frederick Osterling for Henry Clay Frick and built in 1917, recently underwent a $100 million design and technology transformation by The Davis Companies. The firm's current lease in One Oxford Centre expires on December 31, 2019.
"Although our move is more than two years away, we could not be more excited to watch our space within the historic Union Trust Building come to life. Our firm and the building share a parallel path, steeped in tradition, while moving forward with purpose and innovation," said Joseph A. Dougherty, CEO and Managing Director, Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney. "Over the past year, we evaluated a number of options during a competitive bid process and ultimately chose the Union Trust Building, as it best meets the needs of our firm and the way we intend to practice law in the future."
"While the building's historic roots and features have been brought back to life through The Davis Companies' significant investment, many of the renovations and added features are cutting-edge and forward-thinking. This space will complement and enhance our growth plans and innovation initiatives. Simply put, it is a magnificent building and a great home for our future," added Dougherty.
"When we began our journey with the Union Trust Building, we knew that we were breaking new ground for Pittsburgh in trying to create a first-class environment within a historic building. In order to enhance our chances for success, we focused on creating a dynamic mixed-use environment, with outstanding amenities and services that would become a destination within the Pittsburgh community. We believed that we could integrate modern features and functionality while preserving the elegance of the building's architecture to create something unique to Pittsburgh," said Jonathan G. Davis, CEO and Founder, The Davis Companies.
"Our firm is continually evolving and innovating our business model and changing the way we design and use our space is key to our success in that regard. That is exactly why we are making this move in Pittsburgh," noted Nolan W. Kurtz, Buchanan's COO. "Our new office space will encourage greater collaboration, increase efficiency and offer a flexible working environment, not to mention provide us with a myriad of building amenities, such as a unique 75-seat state-of-the-art training facility, a 375-seat theater, best-in-market restaurants and a 5,000-square-foot fitness center. Purposeful integration of technology into our office space design will benefit not just our attorneys and staff, but our clients as well."
Buchanan will be the building's largest tenant occupying approximately 140,000 square feet over nearly three full floors and will be afforded exterior building signage.
"We are absolutely thrilled that such a distinguished and important law firm such as Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney has embraced our vision. They have been equally creative and forward-thinking in how to best take advantage of all that the building has to offer. We welcome them to the Union Trust Building with enthusiasm, and look forward to working with them over the next few years to exceed their expectations for their new headquarters facility," added Davis.
The firm anticipates executing a lease in the summer 2017.
