Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney Boosts Energy Industry IP Depth with Addition of Dr. Robert L. Wagner
PITTSBURGH – July 21, 2017 – Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney is pleased to announce that Dr. Robert L. Wagner brings more than 15 years of experience in complex litigation and intellectual property counsel to its energy team. Dr. Wagner has significant knowledge regarding energy-related litigation and technology and deep experience handling patent infringement and trade secret litigation. Dr. Wagner has handled numerous litigation matters for energy and natural gas company contractors and drillers, including a wide range of financing and personnel issues.
Licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Dr. Wagner handles provisional, non-provisional and PCT patent applications and trademark registrations related to optical, electrical, computer and mechanical technologies common to energy development and distribution. He is a fierce protector of IP assets and brands as he audits, evaluates and ultimately strengthens company portfolios.

Wagner holds a Ph.D. in Applied Physics and a M.S. from the University of Michigan. He received his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University Law School and his B.S. in Physics from Harvey Mudd College. As part of his Ph.D. dissertation, he built a table-top particle accelerator using some of the most powerful lasers in the world to validate decades-old theories and had the opportunity to present his work to international audiences. Wagner is actively involved in his church and various professional associations, including as member of the Advisory Committee for the Study of the Local Patent Rules for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
