CHARLOTTE, N.C. (November 2024) - Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney is expanding its Charlotte office with the addition of Gwendolyn Lewis. She joins the firm as Counsel in the litigation section. She focuses her practice on civil litigation, complex labor and employment litigation and advising and professional liability litigation, assisting a wide range of clients including businesses, churches, healthcare organizations and providers, and educational institutions.

“Gwendolyn is an exciting addition to our section,” said Gretchen Jankowski, shareholder and co-chair of the firm’s litigation section. “Her practice is a great fit for our Charlotte office, and I look forward to working with her for clients in the region and across our national footprint.”

With more than a decade of experience, Lewis provides strategic counsel to individual and corporate clients in civil litigation matters at the trial level, represents clients in cases involving Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) issues and advises clients on a broad range of issues before the United States Department of Labor and the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, including issues arising under Title VII and Title IX.

Lewis has extensive experience with representation and defense of medical providers and hospitals before state courts and administrative agencies, including multi-million-dollar medical malpractice litigation. She also has experience in litigation and day-to-day issues including restructuring, termination, demotions, workplace accommodations, and liability risk management. She has drafted and negotiated settlement documents, discovery, briefs, and other motions to defend employment, professional liability, and business claims, and is experienced in trial and witness preparation through all phases of litigation in state and federal courts.

“I am pleased to welcome Gwendolyn to our Charlotte office. She is an important addition to the team as we continue to focus on growth in this market. With her commercial litigation and labor and employment experience, she brings a skill set that will enhance value for clients,” said Caroline Bassett Warren, litigation shareholder and head of the Charlotte office.

“Buchanan’s strong litigation and labor and employment practices and professionals, as well as geographic footprint attracted me to the firm. I look forward to working with my new colleagues to help clients achieve their objectives,” said Lewis.

Prior to joining Buchanan, Lewis practiced commercial and employment litigation at a AmLaw 200 firm and regional North Carolina firm. She previously served as Alumni Director and an adjunct professor at her alma mater Elon University School of Law. She also served as a judicial extern for the North Carolina Supreme Court for Justice Paul M. Newby. She holds a bachelor's degree from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
