NEW YORK (December 2024) - Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney is proud to announce that it is adding accomplished shareholder Marcio Mello Silva Baptista to its New York City office. Baptista joins the corporate section and will continue to focus on complex transactions and corporate matters. His practice spans cross-border transactions, mergers and acquisitions, private equity operations, transnational contracts, and joint ventures. He has more than 30 years of experience in helping global companies from a wide range of industries and jurisdictions establish a solid presence in Latin America—particularly Brazil—guiding them through diverse corporate, commercial, and compliance matters.

“Marcio is a significant addition to our New York office and corporate section,” said Jennifer Minter, executive shareholder and corporate section chair at Buchanan. “He will be instrumental in increasing our cross-border work and our Latin America practice, which will enhance the services and value we deliver to clients.”

Baptista’s expertise includes coordinating, negotiating, and overseeing multimillion- and multibillion-dollar M&A deals for clients acquiring entities across sectors such as finance, transportation, healthcare, real estate, and beyond. His ability to lead high-stakes transactions of varying scales and complexities has earned him deep trust among clients. He often leads multidisciplinary teams, collaborating with colleagues across practice areas like tax, labor, environmental, and real estate law to ensure comprehensive support and successful outcomes.

“For more than 30 years, I’ve been helping international clients achieve their business goals in Latin America and I’m looking forward to building upon that practice at Buchanan,” said Baptista. “Buchanan’s full-service approach and collaboration across practices and offices will bolster value for my clients. I look forward to working together to empower clients to succeed.”

Before joining Buchanan, he led the New York office of a prominent full-service Brazilian law firm, where he co-headed the Insurance and Reinsurance practice group. His experience representing clients from the U.S., Asia, Europe, and Latin America is bolstered by his multilingual skills and cultural fluency, allowing him to provide nuanced counsel and navigate the intricacies of regional transactions effectively.

Baptista is consistently recognized by Chambers, Chambers Global, Latin Lawyer, The Legal 500, IFLR 1000, and other legal publications.
