How Amy Helps Clients

Amy is an associate in Buchanan’s healthcare litigation group.

Prior to joining Buchanan, Amy worked as a Study Delivery Operations Specialist in the clinical research departments of both Merck and Astra Zeneca.  In those roles, she coordinated and lead phase II and III cardiovascular and oncology studies. Amy also gained valuable clinical experience working as a Neurosurgical ICU nurse at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

While in law school, Amy was able to acquire a wide range of legal experience. As a certified legal intern in the Delaware Civil Clinic, she conducted trial preparation for clients seeking Protection From Abuse orders and litigated PFA trials as a sworn legal intern. Amy also spent a semester working as a legal intern with the Navy JAG Corps in Pensacola, Florida. In that role, she assisted in the preparation of court martial proceedings, and conducted legal research on various military, civil, and family law issues. She also wrote and published legal information articles for the Navy newspaper, “The Gosport”.

Amy gained experience in health care law while finishing her last semester of law school at the University of Virginia. She worked as a Health Law Intern at the Legal Aid Justice Center. In that capacity she participated in the Virginia Institutionalized Persons Project which investigated the adequacy of health care provided to female inmates of the Fluvanna Women’s Correctional Center.

What Clients Can Expect

Amy utilizes her nursing and pharmaceutical backgrounds to assist healthcare providers in defending complex professional liability matters.  Her unique medical-legal background allows her to assist the litigation team in analyzing medical defenses, standard of care and causation defenses, and damages analysis. Within her role as a litigator, Amy represents various healthcare providers including long-term care providers, assisted living facilities, behavioral health providers, health systems, and organizations of the like against professional liability claims.

Outside the Office

In her free time Amy enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Most often, you can find her on the sidelines, cheering on one of her four children on the lacrosse and rugby fields.
