Research Grants: Latest Area of OIG Compliance Focus

On September 5, 2003, the Office of Inspector General (OIG) published a notice announcing its intention to publish compliance guidance for National Institute of Health (NIH) grant recipients. The notice solicits comments and recommendations from interested parties. All such comments are due no later than November 4, 2003. The proposed compliance guidance will target those who receive extramural research grants and cooperative agreement awards from the NIH. Colleges, universities and academic medical centers are institutions that will obviously need to consider adopting a compliance program based on the OIG's guidance.
