Open Source software, alternatively (and sometimes misleadingly) called "free" software, is increasingly an issue for any company, not just for technology providers. While Open Source software may be "free," there are numerous potential costs due to Open Source licensing restrictions, limited warranty and intellectual property protection and the potential detrimental intellectual property effect of Open Source code being combined with other commercially developed code.
