Barb currently serves as Buchanan’s Director of IP Integration. With more than 25 years of leadership and executive management experience as COO of a successful intellectual property boutique law firm, Barb not only enjoys, but thrives on, challenge and obtaining desired outcomes. Her resume is framed by business of law successes and the respect she enjoys from those who benefit from her thoughtful, strong guidance. She possesses extensive knowledge of current trends and issues facing today’s legal industry and she provides both strategic and tactical leadership. Barb’s calm demeanor and sense of humor support her success as a law firm leader. She believes that “fun” in the workplace promotes creativity and excellence. Barb’s passion for the legal industry is matched by her passion for travel and she does so as often as she can.
Barb was co-chair of the “IP Risk Preferred Group”, a group of Intellectual Property Law Firms sharing risk management, creating best practices and procedures and collectively negotiating professional liability insurance terms and conditions.
Barb achieved the designation of Certified Legal Manager (CLM) through the International Association of Legal Administrators (ALA), the credentialing body for the CLM designation. She is a frequent speaker and author of articles on a wide range of legal management topics, including leadership, succession planning, attorney compensation, strategic planning, finance and law firm management. She is actively involved with the Association of Legal Administrators, serving most recently as a member of their International Board of Directors and also as Director of Region 1. She has served in many other positions, including President of the Independence Chapter, Education Officer of Region 1 and Chair of ALA’s Intellectual Property Section. In 2011, Barb received ALA’s Outstanding Volunteer Award for her commitment and dedication to the organization.
Barb is also a member of the Legal Marketing Association, Society of Human Resources Management and an associate member of the American Bar Association (ABA) and Law Practice Management Section.
